About us - Our history

Our story begins in 1982, when Margrit and Theodor built the then still young Chalet Rofel. Previously they had lived in the Hotel Bella Vista, where they managed their professional and family commitments. When their daughter Bernadette took over the hotel and started her own family, Margrit and Theodor decided to hand over the flat in the hotel to the young family. They subsequently built Chalet Rofel with a great deal of personal effort, attention to detail and the desire to create a special place.

Initially, the chalet was Margrit and Theodor's home. Later, their grandchildren Christine, Fabienne and Stefanie moved in with their families and turned the chalet into a lively family centre.

In 2024, Stefanie and her young family decided to modernise the chalet into a new building in order to preserve the place for future generations and offer today's guests an unforgettable experience.

Appreciation and recognition of the grandparents
As a sign of appreciation and recognition for Stefanie's grandparents, our holiday flats bear the names ‘Margit’ and ‘Theodor’. Their souls continue to live in these special rooms and accompany our guests with their love and wisdom.

Local and with passion
As locals, we know Zermatt inside out - the most beautiful ski slopes, the most impressive viewpoints, the best hiking trails, delicious restaurants, inviting bars and interesting shops. We enthusiastically pass on our knowledge to make your stay in Zermatt as unique as the mountains themselves.
