What does ‘Rofel’ actually mean?
If the wind blows into the valley of the Mattertal from the Roffelhörner, you can expect a lot of fresh snow. In the Visp valleys and in the Simplon region, the Rofel is notorious for its large amounts of fresh snow. The high-altitude wind is blowing from the south-east and the snow clouds are travelling from Italy to southern Valais.
